Laying thatch on a roof or walls requires you to be layer the thatch by stapling the panels so that they overlap. Tie the four corner boards together by nailing in cross members extending from each corner parallel to the ridge pole and 24 inches apart. You need to layering the vegetation to make sure if the shed would help the water run away. Additional rafter poles can be temporarily put on the outside to hold thatching in place as you continue to lay upper levels.

Overlap each panel roughly seven to eight inches on center for a full appearance. Starting at the bottom edge of the roof attach each panel to the roof with a staple gun or a hammer. Then attach the base of the thatch panel or roll using a staple gun with at least staples. Build with dry vegetation materials including water reed heather straw rushes and also palm branches.

Start by measuring the surface and cutting the thatch rolls to the desired length. The thatch is laid directly on the rafters and is visible from the inside of the structure. Thatching included as one of the crafting activities for the roofing process.
